“I enjoy supporting our local schools and backing initiatives that uplift our youth. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing young minds light up with possibility.” - Brock Howard
On June 12, 2024, Brock Howard, Executive Director of Pulmonary for Infinity Medical Supply, made a significant contribution to the READ TO LEAD Initiative. By sponsoring a bundle of new books, Brock ensured that kindergartners at Mater Academy in Las Vegas, NV, would have the joy and privilege of owning their very own books. This generous gesture not only supports literacy but also helps foster a lifelong love of reading in our young students.
Infinity Medical Supply is a leading provider of medical equipment, specializing in oxygen therapy, CPAP/BIPAP therapy, wellness support, and more. Their experienced medical professionals prioritize your healing needs, delivering high-quality customer service, medical expertise, and a strong commitment to health and wellness. They strive to enhance your quality of life, ensuring you feel better as quickly as possible.
I'm Brock Howard, a proud UNLV grad and a Vegas local through and through. College wasn't just about hitting the books for me; it was where I found my calling—giving back to our amazing community. I enjoy supporting our local schools and backing initiatives that uplift our youth. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing young minds light up with possibility.
I'm a big fan of baseball, ice cream, and donuts! Fun fact: I'm also the proud owner of Yonutz and a 3x Dessert Wars Champion! I want my story to inspire others to pursue their dreams. I'm all about spreading good vibes, helping my patients improve their well-being, and encouraging the youth to succeed. Remember, when you read, you can lead!
"Read to Lead" is all about expanding literacy among our youth, creating opportunities, and cultivating leaders. Biennial testing through the National Center for Education Statistics shows that two-thirds of U.S. children are unable to read with proficiency. Children who are not reading well by fourth grade are three times more likely to end up in the criminal justice system.
Furthermore, children who do know how to read often don't understand why it is so important. I've asked many children in my travels, "Why do you need to read?" The common response: "Because I have to." Kids may read because they like a certain series or character, some are after a higher grade or accolade, and others seek validation from a teacher or caregiver. There is a gap that needs to be filled.
I am here to help fill that gap by inspiring our youth to read while highlighting business leaders who have cracked the code for success. Accomplished business professionals read on average one book per month. 88% of high-net-worth individuals read for at least 30 minutes a day. Children should understand that reading is so much more than a good grade, an awesome series, or validation. We read so that we can develop our minds in order to be a functional member of society.
The goal is to read so you can lead yourself. Gain independence and responsibility, and be able to make important decisions so you can financially and emotionally care for yourself as an adult. Reading allows you to get a driver’s license and achieve a higher education. It also gives you opportunities to master your skills in the workforce, get a raise, or start a business. There is no ceiling when it comes to reading. Read as much as you want and as often as you can. Reading is the gateway to success and a door that enters the world of endless possibilities. The formula is simple—When you read, you can lead!
Giving Books to Mater Academy Kindergarten Students
As Mrs. Nevada International, my mission is to be a vital component in the wheelhouse of learning. I am filled with immense gratitude for businesses like Infinity Medical Supply, who understand the value of a book and have the means to give back to our community in such meaningful ways.
My children and I had the privilege of delivering these precious books to the classrooms of Mater Academy. It was a day filled with joy and inspiration. We not only delivered the books but also had the wonderful opportunity to read to each classroom. My eight-year-old son, Luscian, brought the stories to life with his animated reading, captivating the class with every word. The excitement and wonder on their faces were priceless.
My five-year-old, Xander, played the role of facilitator, ensuring that the students were following along and understanding the story. His thoughtful questions and engaging demeanor made the experience even more interactive and enjoyable for the young listeners.
The book of the summer is "Mello the Dog," a delightful story that Luscian and Xander had the honor of co-authoring. Sharing their publication with the class was a highlight of the day. They were thrilled to see the students' reactions and to spark a love for reading among their peers.
After the reading session, we gifted each student with their very own copy of "Mello the Dog" and handed out stickers that read "READ TO LEAD." The joy and pride on their faces as they received their books were heartwarming. It was a powerful reminder of the impact that owning a book can have on a child.
Owning a book is a powerful experience for a child. When a child calls a book their own, it creates a personal connection and develops a sense of responsibility and pride. Unlike borrowing from a library, having a book to keep allows a child to revisit favorite stories anytime, sparking a lifelong love of reading. This constant access helps improve literacy skills, encourages independent learning, and nurtures a child's imagination.
Books are more than just stories—they're gateways to knowledge, creativity, and opportunities. By providing children with their own books, we're giving them the tools to improve their reading skills, expand their horizons, and build confidence. The joy and sense of ownership that come with having their own books are unmatched and essential for their educational growth.
