Feeling overwhelmed during your first month of blogging? You’re not alone! There’s so much information out there, and it can feel like there are endless tweaks to make. You might be wondering, “Can I really succeed in the crowded world of blogging?”
Yes, you can! Blogging can feel like a challenge, but with the right plan, it’s completely manageable. My goal is to make the process a bit smoother for you. Here are 10 must-do tasks for real estate agents who are new bloggers to help you set up for long-term success. Let’s dive in!
One of the most critical steps for new bloggers is creating a consistent blogging routine. A schedule helps you stay organized and ensures that you consistently produce content. Without it, every task can feel overwhelming, leading to procrastination or even burnout. A clear blogging schedule simplifies your tasks, helping you make steady progress without feeling like you’re juggling too much. Set aside specific days for writing, editing, and promoting your content. Consistency is the key to long-term blogging success! If you do not already use a planner, I highly recommend my accountability goal planner. It’s color coded to keep you organized, balanced, and purpose driven!
Now that your blog is live, don’t forget to promote it! It’s easy to put all your energy into the launch and then slow down afterward, but promotion is essential to gaining traction. No one will know about your blog if you don’t actively share it. Use platforms like Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter to get the word out. Building your brand takes time, but the more you promote your blog early on, the more likely it will be to catch on. Share your posts on social media, send email newsletters, and even use physical mail-outs with QR codes that link back to your site.
Facebook groups and community forums, like Nextdoor, are excellent ways to drive traffic to your real estate blog, especially when you're starting from scratch. Look for community groups where people stay updated on local news, events, and topics in your niche. If there isn’t one, consider creating a group of your own! We have a client appreciation group that keeps our clients up to date on all community related events. In these groups and forums it's key to share helpful content and build your reputation by actively participating in discussions. The goal is to give value, not just promote. Engage with others, comment on posts, and answer questions to build rapport before sharing your blog posts.
Linking in your blog is a great way to monetize it. Research websites that compliment your blogs and start adding relevant links to your posts. The goal is to promote products or services you genuinely believe in, making recommendations that are helpful to your audience. Here I will share with you three different ways you can link.
This first option is called external links - linking your blog to other websites. For example, if you are writing a blog about home staging and have a partnership with an amazing staging company, I would link them in your blog. If you are talking about the importance of getting a home warranty or inspection, then link back to your favorite companies.
Another great way to keep people on your site and help them navigate your services is to link internally. This is the 2nd way to link. In a nutshell, this means that if your reader were to click on an internal link it would send them to another page on your website to further explain what you were talking about. For example: Let’s say you are writing a blog about - 3 Benefits as to Why Sellers Should Know What Their Home is Worth. I would offer a link back so my reader has the ability to get their, FREE home valuation in that post. You can easily highlight those words and link back with an internal link on your real estate website making sure to keep your reader on your site longer while adding free value. This also continues to build trust with your reader and Google LOVES it when people stick around on websites. It tells Google that you are the real deal which in turn bumps you up organically on the search engine sites.
The 3rd way to link on your site is through affiliate marketing. So, if you are part of an affiliate program that allows you to gain commission by referring people to that business, you can add in a link on your blog. It is important to add in a disclaimer letting your readers know you may gain a small commission from this program. A sample disclaimer may go something like this:
“DISCLAIMER: I may receive a small commission – which is not going to affect your final price – on the products mentioned. I am only promoting products that I consider valuable and beneficial. If you decide to make any purchase, well…thank you for buying me a cup of coffee!”
Pinterest is a powerful tool for driving traffic to your blog. Learn how to create eye-catching pins and use keyword-rich descriptions to optimize for search. Make sure you’re regularly pinning your blog content to reach new readers. Pinterest acts as both a search engine and a social platform, making it invaluable for real estate agents who are new bloggers.
Your blog’s success also relies on your social media presence. Create a strategy for sharing your posts on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Tailor your content to each platform and engage with your followers by responding to comments and questions. By regularly interacting with your audience, you’ll build a community around your real estate blog.
Monetizing your blog early can help you generate income as it grows. Setting up Google AdSense allows you to display ads on your blog and earn money based on the traffic you get. It’s a simple and effective way to start generating revenue from your content.
Networking with other bloggers can help you grow faster. Build relationships with others in your niche by commenting on their posts, sharing their content, and even collaborating on guest blogs. Supporting others will often result in them returning the favor, bringing more exposure to your blog. Going back to what I mentioned earlier about linking on your website, the concept here is the same as that. You want to collab with like minded businesses like staging companies, inspectors, interior designers, home warranties, landscapers… See who is showing up in the blogging world and form a relationship with them. Team up with content creation to help explode both of your businesses for the better.
Focus on building your email list from day one. A strong newsletter helps keep your readers engaged with your content and brings them back to your blog regularly. Offer freebies or valuable content in exchange for email signups, and send regular updates to keep your subscribers in the loop.
Lastly, blogging can be intense, so it’s important to take breaks. Avoid burnout by stepping away from your screen when needed. Regular breaks will help you maintain a balanced blogging schedule and keep your content fresh and engaging. Remember blogging is a marathon not a sprint. It is about creating evergreen content that brings your traffic today, tomorrow, and years to come! You have to be in it for the long haul. This isn’t a get rich quick scheme. To make it easier, create boundaries with your scheduling so you don’t burn out. Here is my Ultimate Blogging Schedule For Realtors. My kids call it the cheat codes!
